Malta hopes that its participation International Civil Aviation Organisation Air Services Negotiation Event has provided it will the possibility to enter into bilateral air services negotiations with other countries aimed at concluding Air Services Agreements (ASAs). New agreements would open up new routes from Malta, increasing connectivity and traffic frequencies.
During ICAN/2015, Malta had formal bilateral negotiations on air services with nine different countries and initiated talks with three other countries in four days. These discussions led to the initialing of ASAs including their associated Memorandum of Understanding between the respective Aeronautical Authorities of the Government of Malta and the Governments of other States. Throughout the event, the delegation of Malta managed to conclude agreements with six different countries which included Viet Nam, Pakistan, Burkina Faso, Hong Kong, Curaçao, United Republic of Tanzania and Mongolia.
