Malindo Air to take flight

Malindo Air has received an Air Operators Certificate (AOC) from the Malaysian Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) to operate commercial flights.
This is the news that many have been waiting for since this airline (it could be argued) has a model that is one step ahead of where the likes of Aer Lingus tried to be but failed because it did not have the low-cost base and the scale required at key destinations such as London Gatwick. Malindo is a hybrid low-cost carrier with full business and economy class on all flights. With TVs and meals offered and free baggage allowances of 30kg for business class and 15kg for economy. One wonders in this market how the airline will turn a profit with its new 737-900ERs. It is for this reason that the airline should be watched, there are a further 100 aircraft on order over 10 years for this airline. Initially seven routes will be operated from Kuala Lumpur – Watch this space.
