The Malaysian Government has recently approved a plan for the rejuvenation of Malaysia’s Subang Airport. As a part of the plan the airport will be developed into a premium city airport and aviation hub with a capacity to handle eight million passengers annually and create thousands of jobs in Malaysia.
In a quote to Malay Mail, Anthony Loke, Malaysia’s Transport Minister said: “I think this is a major game-changer as far as Subang Airport is concerned. The seven areas in focus will be introduction of commercial jet passenger flights for general aviation, business aviation, urban air mobility as well as regional commercial flight operations among others.”
“The airport will also be developed into a hub for the aerospace industry, for maintenance, repair and overhaul operations, and research and development,” Loke added.
Airport operator Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) has been given two months to develop a working business plan for the redevelopment of Subang Airport.
One of the major advantages of this project would be the start of narrowbody operations in this airport.
Subang Airport currently serves as the base for SKS Airways, Firefly and Batik Air Malaysia’s smaller planes. Cargo airline Raya Airways is the only other airline operating non-passenger services at Subang airport’s Terminal 2.
The final cost of the rejuvenation plan will be announced later.
