Malaysia Aviation group ramps capacity ahead of peak Hari Raya holiday season

The Malaysia Aviation group is all set to ramp up its capacity to meet the peak travel demand during the upcoming Hari Raya travel period, a public holiday celebrated for two days. All three airlines in the Malaysia Aviation Group, Malaysia Airlines, Firefly, and MASwings will be adding a capacity of 18,000 additional seats. The additional seat allocation is on top of the additional 20,000 seats which were launched on 29 March 2023.

The domestic travel surge is expected to commence from April 18 and continue till May 1, 2023. Malaysia Airlines will be upgrading its services by using the larger Airbus A330 to Kota Kinabalu on April 20, 30 and May 1.

The airline is also adding another 54 extra flights to Kuching, Kota Kinabalu, Tawau, Sandakan, Kota Bahru, Alor Setar, Terengganu, Kuantan, Labuan, Bintulu, Sibu and Miri to ensure convenience for passengers.

Firefly has also increased its flight frequency to Kota Bharu and Kota Kinabalu to support the travel demand.

Ahmad Luqman Mohd Azmi, Chief Executive Officer of Airlines from Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), said: “We are currently seeing positive demands during this period and encourage passengers to plan their travels ahead of time to enjoy the best deals on airfares. As of February 2023, our capacity reached 85% of 2019 and we are expecting a positive increase especially with the upcoming festive season and school holidays.”
