Malaysia Airlines takes off with first A330neo

Malaysia Airlines took off with its first A330neo on December 19, 2024. The airline said it marks a major step in its fleet modernisation strategy. Airbus announced it had delivered the aircraft in late November. The aircraft was leased from Avolon's orderbook.

“The debut of our first A330neo marks a transformative moment for MAG as we modernise our fleet and set a new era of air travel where innovation, comfort, and sustainability come together seamlessly,” said Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) group managing director Izham Ismail.

The group will have a total of 20 A330neo aircraft delivered by 2028. All 20 are leased from Avolon by the airline.

Malaysia Airlines also signed an exclusive partnership with Mercedes-Benz as its private terminal transfer service provider from January 2025 for eligible passengers.

MAG currently operates a fleet of 107 aircraft across its subsidiaries, including Malyasia Airlines, Firefly, MASwings, and MASkargo.

The airline plans to expand its fleet to 62 narrowbody and 52 widebodies — 114 in total — by 2033. The company said it received its fifth 737-8 aircraft in mid-December, with the remaining 20 expected to arrive from next year through 2026.
