MAG introduces free onboard Wi-Fi for premium passengers

Malaysia Airlines Group (MAG) has introduced free Wi-Fi across all its airlines, namely Malaysia Airlines, Firefly, and MASwings for premium passengers. The rollout is part of MAG's ongoing commitment to enhancing the overall passenger experience within the airline group.

Following regulatory approval from the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia, Malaysia Airlines will offer this service for passengers departing Malaysia on international flights.

By enabling 'flight mode' on their device, passengers will no longer be required to switch off their (personal electronic devices) PEDs during take-off and landing, as was previously required due to regulatory and aircraft requirements. Permitted PEDs for the service include mobile phones, tablets, and other small hand-held devices that are stowable in the passenger's seat pocket.

The complimentary WiFi offering is available for Business Suites and Business Class, in addition to Enrich Platinum loyalty customers and is limited till December 31, 2023. Currently the facility is available on just 20 aircraft across MAG fleet.

“The offering comes with a data cap of 100 MB per sector, with a bandwidth of up to 512 kbps to ensure that the passengers remain connected and productive,” the airline said in a press release.

Commenting on the latest feature, Ahmad Luqman Mohd Azmi, Chief Executive Officer, MAG said: “By enabling gate-to-gate connectivity across all our airlines, it allows passengers to stay connected throughout their journey with us; whether it’s to keep their loved ones updated on the move or even get some work done during their flight.
