Lufthansa Group welcomes new management in 2021

SWISS, Brussels Airlines and Lufthansa Cargo have all welcomed new chief executive officers. Dieter Vranckx has been appointed as the new CEO of SWISS; Peter Gerber as the new CEO of Brussels Airlines; and Dorothea von Boxberg becomes the new CEO of Lufthansa Cargo.

Vranckx (47), currently CEO of Brussels Airlines, has been appointed CEO of the Swiss airline by the SWISS Board of Directors. Dieter Vranckx will assume his new duties on 1 January 2021, succeeding Thomas Klühr, who will leave the company as planned at the end of the year.

Vranckx has held several senior positions at Deutsche Lufthansa since 2001. Between 2010 and 2013 he was Regional Director USA Midwest and Canada at Lufthansa Cargo AG in Chicago. From 2013 to 2016 he was Vice President Home Markets at SWISS, where he was responsible for sales in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Following his successful tenure at SWISS headquarters he spent two years in Singapore from 2016 to 2018 where he was responsible for Group Sales and Marketing activities for the airlines of the Lufthansa Group in the Asia-Pacific region. In 2018 he joined Brussels Airlines as CFO, and in 2020 he took over as CEO. Vranckx is a dual Swiss and Belgian citizen.

Vranckx will be succeeded as CEO of Brussels Airlines by Peter Gerber (56). Subject to the pending resolution by the Board of Directors of SN Airholding, Gerber, who is currently Chairman of the Executive Board of Lufthansa Cargo, will move to Belgium with effect from 1 March 2021. There, he will also assume the newly created function of Lufthansa Group Chief Representative for European Affairs in Brussels.

Gerber began his career with the Lufthansa Group in 1992, and from 1997 onwards was responsible for the area of Group Accounting, Fees and Charges. Between 2001 and 2004, Gerber was the project manager responsible for the group-wide "D-Check" program to safeguard earnings.  Following that position he took over responsibilities in the areas of collective bargaining policy and social security of the Lufthansa Group. This period spanned five years between 2004 and 2009 In June 2009, Gerber was appointed to the Executive Board of Lufthansa Cargo AG and was responsible for Finance and Human Resources. In June 2012 Gerber moved to the Executive Board of Lufthansa Passage Airlines and was responsible for Human Resources, IT & Services. Since May 2014.  Gerber has been Chairman of the Executive Board of Lufthansa Cargo AG.

Gerber's successor as CEO of Lufthansa Cargo AG is Dorothea von Boxberg (46). Following resolution by the Supervisory Board of Lufthansa Cargo, she will assume her new position on 1 March 2021

Dorothea von Boxberg began her professional career in 1999 at the Boston Consulting Group. In 2007 she moved to the Lufthansa Group, holding various management positions. From 2012, she was responsible for Customer Experience Design at Lufthansa Airline. In 2015, Dorothea von Boxberg moved to Lufthansa Cargo and headed the Global Sales Management department. With effect from 1 August 2018, the Supervisory Board of Lufthansa Cargo appointed her to the Executive Board of Lufthansa Cargo. Currently, she is responsible for worldwide sales, network planning, product management and product development.

He will bring this experience to his new dual role in Brussels. Dorothea von Boxberg has played a major role in the current success of Lufthansa Cargo AG in recent years, not only as a sales expert. With her experience and know-how, she will continue to expand the strong competitive position of our cargo division”.
