Lufthansa Cargo boosts China partnerships as the country becomes "most important" growth market for airfreight

Lufthansa Cargo signed three memorandum of understandings (MoU) with three Chinese companies: Shanghai Airport Authority, Air China Cargo, and China Postal Express & Logistics.

“China's rapid growth has transformed it into a global economic powerhouse and is now one of the most important growth markets in the airfreight industry,” the company read in a statement. The company added that China's high-tech commodity production hubs position it as one with “enormous potential” for the airfreight sector.

The MoU with Shanghai Airport Authority aims to establish a framework to further develop cooperation in focused aeras and enhance operational efficiencies, as well as improve customer experiences. It also aims to jointly develop Shanghai Pudong Airport into a competitive Asia-Pacific core hub.

The company's CEO Ashwin Bhat signed the cooperation agreements during a recent trip to China. Bhat also met with Shanghai vice mayor Hua Yuan to discuss sustainability, as well as cross-border e-commerce developments and the digitisation of aviation logistics. The company reported the Shanghai Municipal Government had shown its support for Lufthansa Cargo.
