Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA) is set for a return to pre-Covid operations, with the number of flights, passengers and seats for sale likely to be the most since before the pandemic, the airport's management said in a March 29 statement.
"The number of seats on sale to over 50 destinations served by airlines operating this Summer from Liverpool is up 14% on last year," LJLA said, with easyJet offering 20% more, including on new routes to Corfu and Paris. Irish rival Ryanair is adding 11%, with new routes to Ibiza, Madrid and Shannon, while winter connections to Malta and Szczecin will be extended into the summer.
Lufthansa is increasing capacity in Liverpool by 75%, while Norwegian carrier Widerøe will in August reinstate its" popular twice-weekly service to Bergen" after a three-year absence.
“We all knew that having been one of the first industries to be impacted by the pandemic, we would also be one of the last to fully recover afterwards, however this summer we expect to see passenger numbers edging closer to pre-pandemic levels with our airline partners adding more flights to existing popular destinations as well as a number of new services too," said Paul Winfield, the airport's director of aviation development.
