Lilium Air Mobility has announced the start of production of its all-electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) jet, following the arrival of the first fuselage at Lilium’s final assembly line in Wessling, Germany.
The German advanced air mobility company describes the start of production as a ‘watershed moment, shifting from the design phase to industrialisation of the Lilium Jet’.
Available in up to six seats, the fixed-wing, canard-configured craft employs Lilium’s proprietary ducted vectored electric thrust technology to propel it forward; utilising electric jet engines integrated into the wings. “To see the first aircraft fuselage on the final assembly line ready to join up with the canard and wings is a proud moment for everyone involved in our mission to make aviation sustainable,” highlighted Klaus Roewe, CEO of Lilium.
“The progress made … is a testament to the quality of collaboration with our aerostructres suppliers Aciturri and Aernnova,” added COO Yves Yemsi, explaining that Lilium’s tier-one suppliers are also ramping up production of parts and systems.
The first seven aircraft to be completed will be used for Lilium’s upcoming flight test programme, which hopes to achieve EASA type certification in 2026.
