Electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) jet developer Lilium is to partner with PhilJets, a leading aviation provider in the ASEAN region, to develop an eVTOL operational network across Philippines. PhilJets also intends to purchase 10 Lilium Jets.
As part of the agreement, both companies will work to define future routes, city pairs and determine passenger demand for an eVTOL service in the region. They will also identify locations, requirements and partners for the required infrastructure, including vertiport specifications. Although initial focus will be on the Philippines, Cambodia and other countries in the region are set to follow.
PhilJets currently operates both private and commercial flights with its fleet of 15 private jets and helicopters. “With its growing economy, geography and important tourism industry, the Philippines is a great match to the Lilium Jet’s capabilities,” said PhilJets chairman Thierry Tea. “Innovation in aviation is gaining traction among regulators, urban planners and industry leaders of worldwide economies”.
Sebastian Borel, chief commercial officer at Lilium, added: “The Philippines is well suited for eVTOLs to effectively connect thousands of islands together through sustainable and high-speed air mobility. Asia is a key market for Lilium – and with the unique topographical challenges this region presents, the innovative design of the Lilium Jet is uniquely suited to address them”.
