Lift Airlines is scheduled to begin operations in South Africa from 10 December 2020, says founder, former joint CEO of Comair Gidon Novick, who has partnered with Global Aviation on the new venture.
The initial route will be Johannesburg to Cape Town, with ticket sales to open in the next two weeks.
Novick says that Lift will operate using a flexible business model and is aimed at locals who want to explore South Africa.
Speaking to local media, Novick said that he was worried about a second wave but noted that “South Africans are really travelling again”. He admitted it was a risky time to start an airline since demand is so uncertain but the key to managing that it “to have flexibility, to be able to ramp up and ramp down [operations] very quickly”.
