Libyan Airlines to wet lease EU aircraft

In order to circumvent a ban from flying into European Union airspace due to safety concerns, Libyan Airlines is planning to wet-lease an aircraft from a European airline, which would allow it to continue flying between Libya and European destinations.

A wet lease is a leasing arrangement where an airline provides an aircraft, complete with crew, maintenance and insurance, to another airline which pays by hours operated. The airline leasing the aircraft provides fuel and covers airport fees and any other duties and taxes.

The Libyan Transport Ministry has agreed that all air carriers licensed in Libya cannot fly into the EU until at least November 22.
