South America-based LATAM Group said it expects to receive 15 new aircraft in 2023 including a first A321neo to add to a fleet of 311 operated by its airlines.

LATAM said further it is aiming at the "renewal of the fleet with more than 100 aircraft of the A320neo, A321neo and A321XLR models, which will be gradually added towards the end of this decade".

The new models are to "replace aircraft with more modern and efficient one" as well as allow LATAM regain the level of operations it was carrying out prior to the Covid pandemic.

"The Airbus A320neo aircraft has more efficient engines, aerodynamic improvements and technologies that provide a 20% lower fuel consumption, with a 50% reduction in nitrogen oxide emissions”, said Sebastián Acuto, the group#s director of fleet and projects.

LATAM recently said it could be interested in acquiring Viva Airlines, after Colombia's aviation regulator questioned the latter's proposed merger with Avianca.
