LanzaJet secures investment from Microsoft’s Climate Innovation Fund
LanzaJet has received an investment from Microsoft’s Climate Innovation Fund, enabling the sustainable fuel producer and technology company to ‘continue building its capability and capacity to deploy its sustainable fuels process technology globally,’ as the two parties also intend to explore potential applications for Microsoft’s AI capabilities. The latest investment follows a $50 million project finance investment from Microsoft’s Climate Innovation Fund in 2022, which supported the construction of LanzaJet’s inaugural ethanol-to-SAF (sustainable aviation fuel) plant. The funding will enable Microsoft to gain access to renewable fuels as well as SAF certificates from future LanzaJet projects. “Our continued alignment with Microsoft allows LanzaJet to build our team and capability at pace to support global deployment of our leading sustainable fuels process technology,” highlighted CEO of LanzaJet Jimmy Samartzis. Brandom Middaugh, senior director at Microsoft’s Climate Innovation Fund, added: “Microsoft is investing in partners who share our commitment to advancing a net-zero economy and who are building the market for critical solutions like SAF and renewable diesel”.
