Korean Air to open Asia's ""largest"" engine maintenance cluster in 2027
Korean Air has begun construction of its new aircraft engine maintenance cluster near Incheon International Airport in Unbuk to bolster its aircraft engine maintenance capabilities and MRO business. The maintenance complex is set to open in 2027, with Korean Air claiming it will be the largest of its kind in Asia. ""The engine is like the heart of the airplane,"" said Korean Air chairman and CEO Walter Cho. ""Korean Air pledges to uphold the highest standards of safety, and is committed to elevating Korea's competitive edge in a highly specialised sector of aviation."" The ?578bn ($438.5 million) complex will span across 140,000 square metres at seven levels high and is set to generate over 1,000 jobs. It will be adjacent to the airline's existing engine test cell that began operations in 2016. The construction will be conducted by Kolon Global. Korean Air is set to enhance its engine MRO capabilities from servicing 100 engines to 360 annually.
