Korean Air will construct a new aircraft maintenance hangar within Incheon International Airport's High Tech Aviation Complex, supported by a 176bn Korean won ($120.1 million) joint investment with the airport in preparation for the airline's integration with Asiana Airlines. Korean Air completed its acquisition of Asiana in December 2024.

Korean Air and Incheon International Airport Corporation (IIAC) signed an agreement for the H3 Maintenance Facility Development Project on Monday (November 24).

The project will create a next-generation maintenance facility capable of airframe inspections, component checks, and complex heavy maintenance and modification work.

As Korean Air prepares for its integration with Asiana, the new hangar will play a key role in expanding its MRO capabilities and developing a maintenance hub at the airport.

“From the earliest design phase, we will ensure this new hangar becomes the safest, most advanced, and most exemplary maintenance base — a true stronghold of aviation safety,” said Korean Air vice chairman Keehong Woo.

In addition to the new hangar, Korean Air is advancing major infrastructure projects to prepare for the Asiana integration, including a 578bn won ($395 million) project to build Asia's largest engine maintenance facility on Yeongjong Island in Incheon, and a 1.2 trillion future urban air mobility (UAM) and aviation safety R&D centre in Bucheon.
