Korean Air flight drops 21,000 feet, leaving 13 onboard injured
Local press is reporting that Korean Air flight KE189, flying from Seoul to Taichung on June 22, 2024, rapidly descended 21,000 feet following a fault warning in the pressurisation system. According to Taiwan's Taipei Times, the Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft was above Jeju Island when the pilots detected an issue with the system about 50 minutes into the flight. The flight was carrying 125 passengers, and further reporting from the Taipei Times said that “the sudden change in cabin pressure caused health problems that needed treatment when the aircraft returned to Seoul”. Korean Air has confirmed that they are “fully cooperating with all relevant authorities” to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, adding that 17 passengers received medical attention but were discharged without severe injuries. “Our commitment to the safety and well-being of our passengers and crew remains unchanged. We apologize to all affected by this incident,"" said Korean Air.
