Kenya Airways will be hit by a pilot strike by the Kenya Airline Pilots Association (Kalpa), whose members do not intend to go to work on Tuesday. This is despite the Kenyan government’s, which owns 29.8% of the airline, demand that Kalpa withdraw the strike notice immediately especially given the court order demanding that they do so.
Transport Permanent Secretary Irungu Nyakera confirmed that the government has appointed a conciliation committee, through the Ministry of Labour, which will meet today (17 October) to help the two parties reach an amicable solution. But that doesn’t give much time to avert the strike planned for tomorrow. If a solution cannot be reached, the airline will on Tuesday be forced to book travellers in hotels or reimburse money already paid for tickets.
