Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood has stated that the crash of two aircraft on the taxiway at New York’s JFK airport last week was due to human error, although he did not specify whether it was pilot error or air traffic controller error.
An Air France A380 clipped the wing of a small Delta regional commuter jet. LaHood’s comment was aimed to limit the damage to the feds from the embarrassing recent string of air traffic controllers falling asleep on duty, forcing pilots in some cases to land planes on their own.
