JetSMART recently took delivery of its 25th aircraft, an A321neo coinciding with the airline’s seventh anniversary celebrations. In the last six-years since starting commercial flights, JetSMART carried around 20 million passengers in South America.
The airline has three domestic branches across South America - JetSMART Chile with 12 planes in its fleet and now recently inducted A321neo. Jet MART Argentina operates nine planes while JetSMART Peru has three.
The airline still expects delivery of about 100 new aircraft from Airbus, including 14 A321XLRs.
The airline has already commenced operations on the new A321, on July 3, the airline operated its first passenger flight between Santiago and Iquique. Since then, it has performed over 120 flights.
Interestingly, the new Airbus A321neo JetSMART recently received has a ñandú, also known as Rhea or South American ostrich, painted on its tail. Other animals painted on JetSMART’s tails include Samy, the bottlenose dolphin; Wanda, the South American sea lion; Vicky, the vicuña; Alejo, the condor; and Yaguareté, the jaguar.
