JetBlue plans first airport lounges

JetBlue is planning its first-ever airport lounges, set to open at New York JFK International Airport Terminal 5 in late 2025. It said it will open a lounge at the Boston Logan International Airport Terminal C soon after.

"Customers have asked for a JetBlue lounge for years and we can’t wait to unveil our take in New York and Boston," said JetBlue president Marty St. George.

The airline said it will soon launch a new premium credit card that will give complimentary access to its new lounges. Details of the card have yet to be revealed. In addition, its 'TrueBlue Mosaic 4' members and its premium transatlantic mint customers will also have access to the lounges.

In its second quarter earnings call, JetBlue CEO Joanna Geraghty said that to be "profitable and loved", the airline would have to "meet the evolving preferences of our customers, including an increased desire for premium experiences".

She added: "We believe that delivering on that brand promise will also enable us to ensure our customers feel rewarded for their loyalty. This, in turn, would help us specifically expand our share of premium customers."

During the call, George said that it has "shifted capacity out of corporate-focused routes" and into its leisure and visiting friends and relatives (VFR) routes. He further clarified that despite pivoting away from corporate, the airline will still continue to carry corporate customers.

"There's no walking away from the corporate market," he said. "I think the better way to describe it is we're not really designing the network for corporate like we once did." He noted the slower recovery of corporate travel in New York.
