An analyst report from financial services firm Jefferies estimates that Boeing will restart deliveries of its troubled 737 MAX airplane for the Q3 2020.
While the US regulator FAA has yet to recertify the airplane as safe for services Jefferies estimated a Q3 restart for delivery of the MAX, which is said would result in a total of 498 deliveries, versus 380 in 2019.
However, the report said that Boeing’s order activity in January remained muted, with no new orders, compared with 45 a year ago.
“The current backlog for the MAX totals 4,545 aircraft, flat from December,” said the analyst report. “We forecast deliveries restarting in Q3:2020 with a production rate of 21 per month. For the 787, deliveries totalled 6 units vs 8 in January 2019. 787 deliveries lagged the current stated production rate of 14/month, which is expected to step down to 12 a month in late 2020 and 10a month in early 2021,” it added.
According to Jefferies, January 2020 was the first month that Boeing had booked no orders since May 2019, directly after the MAX grounding,
