January deliveries for Airbus and Boeing at slow start
Airbus and Boeing's January aircraft deliveries showed a slow start to the first quarter, Bloomberg Intelligence found in an analysis report. Airbus in particular will need to double its monthly rate of A320 deliveries to meet consensus whereas Boeing targets are more reasonable. However, FAA inspections and potential adjustments could impact whether Boeing's targets are met. Airbus delivered the most aircraft in January at 30, down from December's 112 aircraft. 26 of the 30 aircraft delivered were A320s. The company will need to ship 51 aircraft in February and March to meet the first quarter consensus of 128 aircraft. Only two A220s were delivered against the consensus of 15. Although no A350s were delivered, the report believes its target of 12 delivered in the first quarter to be reasonable. The A330 consensus of seven also seems reasonable, with two units delivered in January. Boeing delivered 25 737s in January, falling from December's 44 deliveries. The report indicated Boeing's fleet grounding and FAA inspections (following the Alaska Airlines plug blowout in January) are potentially impacting Boeing's first quarter consensus of 97 deliveries. Only one 787 aircraft was delivered in January, but the target of 17 for the first quarter remains within reach. No 777 aircraft were delivered in January but its target of six remains reasonable as does the 767s consensus of six with one delivery. Overall, the report believes that deliveries need to be strong in February and March for the manufacturers to meet their first quarter consensus.
