JAL ramps its domestic and international capacity eyeing a busy winter

Japan Airlines (JAL) is increasing its flight frequencies on international routes due to a surge in travel demand and gearing up for a busy winter. The carrier will introduce its new flagship A350-1000 aircraft on the Haneda - New York route in late November along with expanding capacity on other US and Asia routes.

JAL will ramp its capacity on the Narita - Hong Kong route from three to five weekly flights and on the Kansai- Los Angeles route from four to five weekly flights. The airline will also increase flights on the Kansai – Honolulu in November from four to five per week and Nagoya (Chubu) -Honolulu from three to four weekly flights.

JAL is still adjusting the plans for certain routes and schedules and will give a detailed update once they are finalized.

JAL is also planning to introduce a new business class product is coming for the new Airbus widebodies, which will be unveiled on October 2. Apart from the international route, JAL will also ramp its domestic capacity with Osaka (Itami) – Izumo flights from four to five daily from October 29, Osaka (Itami) – Kagoshima round trips from seven to eight per day from December.

The airline is also launching new routes from Sapporo, deploying the wet leased aircraft from Hokkaido Air System (HAC) on the route starting October 25. JAL will soon launch Sapporo (Okadama) – Nemuro Nakashibetsu route.

Japan’s domestic traffic has already returned to 100% of pre-pandemic with the lifting of internal travel restrictions. Domestic passenger numbers and revenue grew 1.4 times compared to the first quarter of FY22.
