Japan Airlines has launched a new ‘Corporate SAF Program’ which will aim to certify the environmental value of the carbon dioxide reduction achieved through the use of sustainable aviation fuel on board its flights.
Whilst the airline has been working on reducing its direct (scope 1) and indirect (scope 2) emissions, the new programme will also contribute to the reduction of scope 3 emissions (produced by other companies related to JAL’s own activities) for corporate customers. SAF certificates, indicating the carbon dioxide reduction rate achieved by using the sustainable fuel, will then be ‘issued and sold to corporate customers who require the environmental value’.
‘Participation in this program enables corporate customers the visualisation and reduction of CO2 emissions based on air travel usage for cargo transportation and employee business trips,’ explains JAL, which intends to use a 1% blend of SAF by 2025 and 10% by 2030.
