JAL finalises additional 17 737 MAX order

Japan Airlines (JAL) has finalised its order for an additional 17 737 MAX 8 aircraft. The airline had previously disclosed its intention to order the aircraft earlier this month

“The 737 has been the backbone of our single-aisle fleet for nearly 50 years, and we are honoured to continue its legacy as part of our future fleet,” said Japan Airlines president Mitsuko Tottori. “We are excited to add more 737-8s to deliver a safe and secure journey to our valued customers with a sophisticated flying experience.”

Boeing senior vice president of commercial sales and marketing Brad McMullen commented: “By selecting the 737-8, Japan Airlines will gain operational and economic efficiencies, positioning them for success in the years ahead.”

The order builds upon its original order placed in March 2023 for 21 of the jets, increasing it to 38 in total. The aircraft will gradually replace the 737-800s. The new jets will support the airline's network amid its respective country's current high tourist demand.

JAL's 737-8 will debut the Boeing sky interior — featuring advanced LED lighting, larger windows and more spacious overhead bins.
