JAL adopts Boeing Insight Accelerator for 787 fleet

Boeing and Japan Airlines (JAL) have agreed a digital predictive maintenance solution that JAL helped to develop, along with extensive interior modifications for some of JAL’s 787 fleet.

Insight Accelerator aims to assist airlines with predictive maintenance and reduce unscheduled maintenance using artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning, to quickly identify indicators of degradation or malfunction. Boeing estimates that these capabilities can reduce unnecessary inspections by up to 85%. Additionally, it shortens the time from months to days for predictive maintenance analysis.

“Insight Accelerator puts the power of data into the hands of our customers so they can address maintenance needs quickly and efficiently,” said Brad Surak, vice president of Digital Aviation Solutions, Boeing Global Services.

Boeing will also provide an upgraded interior configuration for 787 airplanes. It will perform the engineering work and supply component kits to JAL for the reconfigurations.

Kate Schaefer, vice president of commercial modifications for Boeing, said: “It is an honour to bring JAL’s vision for 787 cabin interiors to life through our cabin modifications.”
