Flag carrier ITA Airways has hopped on the sustainable aviation fuel bandwagon by signing a first agreement under the Fly with SAF programme with logistics business DB Schenker Italy.
The companies are to "join their forces to develop the use of sustainable aviation fuel", the carrier said.
"The programme offers freight forwarders and shippers the possibility of supporting the purchase of SAF and thus reducing their CO2 emissions while shipping their goods, making customers choose their level of commitment", ITA said in its announcement of the deal, which it said is part of a plan "to become the greenest airline in Europe in 2026".
The carrier aims to fly with "80% of new generation aircraft which, with 25% lower fuel consumption, allow a significant reduction in CO2 emissions".
