Pakistan has ordered an inquiry into an engine failure on a PIA flight on November 18. The A310 developed a fault in its engine number one soon after takeoff from Karachi Airport, loud thuds, rumbling and bangs were heard while the Air Traffic Controller (ATC) reported smoke coming out of the engine.
Captain Ahmed Saeed, assisted by First Officer Faruqi, controlled the aircraft and landed safely without any problem ensuring safety of all 167 passengers and 11 crew on board.
Aviation experts have demanded a probe into the role of Air traffic controllers regarding the incident of flight PK-787. One of the main grievances in this incident was alleged 2-3 minutes of radio silence from ATC after the pilot had informed the ATC of the engine failure.
