Infinium to construct large scale sustainable fuels production facility in Texas

Alternative fuels producer Infinium said on May 19 that construction is underway for its second US-based e-fuels production site.

The project, known as ‘project roadrunner’, includes investors Brookfield Asset Management and Breakthrough Energy Catalyst, and will be located in Reeves County, Texas.

The site is expected to become the world's largest e-fuels production facility when operational, producing 23,000 tonnes per year of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and other e-fuel products for customers including American Airlines, British Airways-owner IAG, and other international airline brands.

E-fuels are synthetic fuels, produced from waste CO2 and renewable energy, that are chemically identical to conventional petroleum-based fuels. The fuels produced by the project will be sold domestically in the US and exported to international markets.

The facility is expected to reach commercial operations in 2027. The project has secured a 150MW of new wind generation capacity from a subsidiary of NextEra Energy Resources through a long-term power purchase agreement.
