Indonesia AirAsia is planning robust fleet expansion by adding new aircraft along with bringing the seven parked aircraft back in commercial operations in the new year. During the shareholder’s briefing in the last week of December 2022, Veranita Yosephine Sinaga, CEO of Indonesia AirAsia highlighted the strategies planned for 2023. However, she did not elaborate on the number of aircraft orders or any timelines for expansion.
The airline management has taken the above steps looking at a strong air travel recovery in Asia-Pacific towards the end of 2022 and forecasted to continue in 2023. Speaking on expansion plans to enhance passenger numbers, she said: “It is a great opportunity to stimulate demand by using promotional methods and marketing assets. Currently, the focus of the company is still to maximize operations by increasing the aircraft fleet and opening new routes both domestically and internationally while continuing to search for opportunities to strengthen capital.”
Indonesia AirAsia currently has 16 aircraft in operation and all of them are A320-200s. Out of the total 23 aircraft (seven parked) the airline owns one while the rest are on lease. Going ahead, Airbus order data currently has no records of Indonesia AirAsia orders.
