IndiGo in talks with Boeing for potential widebody order

IndiGo is planning to purchase about 25 B787 widebody aircraft for international expansion, Reuter reports. The airline is in talks with Boeing since the last few days, but Airbus is also not completely out of the picture as the airline might consider A330s as an option.

Since March, IndiGo has been in talks with both Boeing and Airbus regarding its widebody plans. IndiGo has recently launched new routes to Africa and Asia-Pacific and has partnered with several airlines in Europe. Its continued goal is to double its capacity by the end of the decade, and expanding its route variety goes hand in hand with this goal.

IndiGo’s recent codeshare with Turkish has allowed the airline to expand its operations on an ACMI deal on a B777. But experts feel that Indigo might in future buy its own widebody fleet to drive down the cost. However, consider the existing backlog of narrowbody fleet from Boeing and Airbus, the airline might consider to long-term lease of widebody for immediate expansion plans.
