IndiGo announces string of new routes to meet summer travel demands

IndiGo recently announced four flights between India and Southeast Asia, including two new routes between Bhubaneshwar-Singapore and Bhubaneshwar-Bangkok, adding second frequency on Bangkok-Kolkata route starting June 3, 2023.

Eyeing the rising passenger demand on the Delhi-Singapore route the airline will also commence daily direct flight connecting India’s capital to Singapore from May 25, 2023.

Vinay Malhotra, Head of Global Sales, IndiGo said, “We are extremely pleased to announce new routes and additional frequencies to Singapore and Bangkok, in-line with our vision to enhance accessibility across Southeast Asia. There has been an increasing demand for outbound travel from India during the summer season, and southeast Asian destinations are an all-time favourite for Indian vacationers.”

The airline claims that the flights will significantly enhance connectivity and accessibility across Southeast Asia and provide customers with more and affordable options, especially during the summer vacation.

Last year, the state government invited a request for quotation (RFQ) and gave various airlines the option to operate international flights out of Bhubaneswar, Odisha. Only IndiGo showed interest in operating flights to Dubai, Singapore, and Bangkok.

The state has set aside $14.6 million to operate these flights. It will bear the operational expenses and, in return, will keep the revenue generated by the ticket sales for these services.

These three flights will greatly enhance international connectivity from Bhubaneshwar. Currently, passengers from Odisha have to travel to cities like Delhi and Mumbai for international flights.
