Indigo aircraft veers off runway

An Indigo flight from Chandigarh veered of the runway after landing at Mumbai airport on Saturday evening. The aircraft went off the runway, ran over a shoulder strip and went on towards an unpaved area. It then managed to proceed back to the runway and onto the taxiway.
An Indigo spokesman said a sudden gust of wind caused the incident.
The incident was not immediately reported to apron control or even Air Traffic Control (ATC) and was only detected eight minutes later during a routine inspection by an airport jeep that found five runway lights on the southern edge of the runway were broken and there were tyre marks on the runway shoulder.

As a result, the airport's main runway was closed for almost two hours delaying flights.
The incident has been reported to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and investigations are in progress.
