Indian domestic passenger traffic crosses 4 million mark two days in a row

Indian domestic passenger traffic crossed the four million mark for two consecutive days over the weekend. On Saturday, November 26, 2022, the Indian domestic operators carried 4,05,963 people on 2,767 flights. On Sunday, November 27, 2022, the passenger tally reached 4,09,831.

This is the first time in a long time that domestic aircraft traffic has exceeded 4 lakh for two days in a row.

According to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) data, nearly 11.4 million passengers were carried by domestic airlines during October 2022 in the country as against 8.98 million during the same period last year.

The number of COVID-19 cases has recorded a downward trend in the last couple of weeks resulting in the restoration of normalcy in aviation traffic and the government has relaxed the pandemic norms leading to more passengers opting to travel by air.

Recently the Indian Government relaxed the wearing of mask mandate for domestic flights and removed the lower and upper limits on airfares in the country to aid the airlines in post-pandemic recovery.
