India’s GMR-run Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad is crowed as the best airport with best On Time Performance (OTP) globally, giving a huge boost to Indian aviation industry. As per the data released by Cirium for March 2023. Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport is also among the top ranked airports globally
Cirium reviewed a total number of 3 million flights for every airport globally, and categorizes those airports into four types. The four types are based mainly on seat numbers and are listed as: 1) Global Airport with 25-40 million seats and serve at least three regions 2) Large Airport with 25-40 million seats, 3) Medium Airport with 15-25 million seats and lastly, Small Airport with 5-15 million seats.
As per the Cirium report, Hyderabad's Rajiv Gandhi International Airport was the only global airport to break the 90% on-time departure (OTD) barrier, with a 90.43% OTP. The airport serves 29 airlines and 77 routes and had 14,658 scheduled single-segment flights in March.
The Kempegowda International (BLR) in Bengaluru came in a close second at 86.14%, followed by Bogota's El Dorado International in Colombia. The fourth spot was filled by Philadelphia International (PHL), which was able to get 85.11% of flights away on time.
Japan's Osaka International airport (ITM) was the most punctual medium size airport, with 93.37%, the highest OTD across all categories. The next three slots were filled by Panama Tocumen International Airport (PTY) at 92.15%, Santiago's Arturo Merino Benitez (SCL) at 91.08% and Lima's Jorge Chavez International (LIM) at 90.03%.
The competition was toughest in the small airports category with Brazil's Guararapes-Gilberto Freyre International (REC) topping the chart at 92.46%, which in March handled five airlines on 39 routes.
The second and the third spot was taken by Japan's Chubu Centrair International (NGO) at 92.06% OTD, with 27 airlines served on 29 routes, and Beirut-Rafic Hariri International (BEY) at 89.81% for 32 airlines on 50 routes.
