INDIAN AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL TO BE CORPORATISED

The Indian government has started the process of corporatising Air Traffic Control (ATC). A government committee originally proposed the plan to separate ATC from the Airports Authority of India (AAI) three years ago along with the need for an independent body to run the services. The new body to be called Air Navigation Services (ANS) Corporation is likely to become functional by June this year.

ANS would remain as a wholly-owned subsidiary of AAI for a few years, and it is envisaged it would be at least another three years before ANS is converted into a totally independent body under the Civil Aviation Ministry.
