Ibom Airlines recently took delivery of two Airbus A320-200 aircraft from GETJET on a one-year wet-lease agreement.
George Uriesi, COO of Ibom Airlines, said: “The wet-lease agreement is a stop-gap measure undertaken to meet current demands and accommodate growth. The deliveries of Ibom Air’s ten brand new A220-300s are scheduled to begin in the second half of 2023.”
Ibom Air signed a firm order for 10 A220s at the Dubai Airshow 2021.
“With this new capacity coming on board, we are delighted to inform our passengers that we have increased our offerings, providing more frequencies for their convenience. The Uyo-Lagos and Uyo-Abuja route now have three frequencies every weekday, while our passengers between Lagos and Abuja will have seven frequencies to choose from both ways, every weekday,” the airline said in a statement.
Going ahead, the airline plans to ramp up the flight schedule to meet the rising holiday demands. George Uriesi recently spoke at Airline Economics Growth Frontiers Dubai conference, where referred to Ibom Air's pivot from an CRJ 900 fleet to larger capacity aircraft, beginning with two A220-300s on wet lease from Egyptair in June 2021 that added an immediate 40% capacity to the airline helping it meet demand. The aircraft proved so successful that Ibom Air went ahead with the order for 10 A220s, which will begin to deliver in 2023.
