Nigerian airline Ibom Air has ended its wet-leased aircraft operations following the delivery of its first brand-new A220-300 aircraft, confirmed the company in a statement.
With the imminent entry into service of Ibom Air's first A220-300 (the first of ten ordered from Airbus in October 2021), the airline’s operation of two wet-leased A320s will now come to a conclusion. “We resorted to wet leasing aircraft to meet the growing demand for our product, while we worked on our fleet growth program. Now, with these aircraft being delivered, it is time for us to benefit from the significant operating efficiencies and enhanced service the A220-300 brings to the business,” said Ibom Air’s executive director and COO George Uriesi.
Although the changeover period will result in a reduced flight service for a few weeks, Uriesi confirmed that the transition will enable “a period of better and stable all round service, with these new equipment”.
