Iberia cancels flights over four day strike action

Iberia has confirmed that four days of strike action will heavily impact its services, with Iberia Express, Air Nostrum and the Spanish flag carrier collectively cancelling over 400 flights. In excess of 45,000 passengers will be affected as trade unions (representing Iberia Airport Services ground service personnel) failed to reach “any positive agreements” with the airlines.

Iberia maintains that the strike is “unjustified”, highlighting that “all jobs, as well as salary conditions and social benefits, are guaranteed for life by the Fifth Sector Agreement in all subrogation processes”.

More than 90% of customers have been provided with alternatives following the cancellation of their flights, including options for different times, dates or refunds. Iberia adds that it continues to work to relocate the remaining travellers, highlighting the “complexity of the post-Christmas period and the high occupancy factor of the flights”.

The industrial action is scheduled to run until Monday 8 January.
