IATA warns Thai airport must expand

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has warned the government of Thailand that it must address capacity concerns at Suvarnabhumi airport or lose business.
"Thai authorities should recognise that aviation is a key enabler of travel and tourism and contributes substantially to the Thai economy and employment," IATA said.
Overcrowded Suvarnabhumi needs a new terminal and runway to ensure it remains one of the region's main hubs. It serves 50 million passengers every year even though its capacity is set at 45 million.
IATA said Don Mueang airport can help in the short term, but the country needs to develop Suvarnabhumi as the single hub for Bangkok.
