IATA launches fuel efficiency analytics solution
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has launched its analytics solution to optimise airline fuel consumption through aggregated flight and fuel data. ""IATA FuelIS is a robust analytical tool for airlines to make both strategic and operational decisions to optimize fuel consumption, reduce fuel costs, and improve environmental performance,"" said IATA senior vice president operations, safety and security Nick Careen. The IATA FuellS solution uses the anonymous data to analyse and assess the fuel efficiency of various aircraft types for different regions and times. It can also perform airport benchmarking analysis; examining fuel quantity of aircraft at landing and then benchmarked against the aggregated fuel quantities of all other airlines landing at the same airport. Careen added: ""By enabling airlines to benchmark their fuel performance against aggregated industry data, airlines can understand where they excel and where they need to take action."" The solution uses IATA's global aviation data management system, which sources information from the Flight Data eXchange (FDX) program, which comprises fuel data from 215 global airlines.
