HSBC closes sustainability linked loan with SMBC Aviation Capital for one A320neo family aircraft

HSBC has closed one sustainability linked secured aircraft loan with lessor SMBC Aviation Capital.

The loan was used to finance one A320neo family aircraft.

“This transaction reinforces HSBC's expertise and credentials in the sustainable loans, aviation and export credit markets by tailoring financing solutions to support the strategic and environmental objectives of our clients,” said HSBC director, aviation finance Philip Greene.

The financing was supported by Bpifrance Assurance Export. It marks the first ECA-supported sustainability linked lessor loan for an Airbus aircraft, Greene said.

SMBC Aviation Capital added in a statement: “This facility represents another funding avenue for our business, reinforcing our balance sheet and providing even greater diversification to our capital structure while supporting our wider sustainability strategy.”

HSBC acted as sole mandated lead arranger, ECA coordinator, ECA lender, sustainability coordinator and agent.
