In an attempt to revive the economy, repair its global image following the violent protests of 2019 and to establish its place as aviation hub after the three-years of pandemic lockdown, Hong Kong has launched an international campaign to distribute over 500,000 air tickets.
The campaign named as Hello Hong Kong campaign will include ticket distribution by Cathay Pacific and HK Express in over 200 events across the city. According to Bloomberg, some tickets will be handed out by travel agencies to international tourists.
In 2022, Hong Kong received almost 605,000 visitors as the city slowly dropped its Covid restrictions, which was higher from 91,000 in 2021. Prior to the pandemic, the city was visited by almost 56 million tourists
The move is part of many initiatives that Hong Kong has taken to boost tourism as Covid testing requirements and a quota system for Chinese visitors are set to be dropped.
