Hong Kong Airlines ramps services throughout Asia as markets reopen

Hong Kong Airlines is all set to ramp up its capacity across Asia with four weekly nonstop flights from Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) to Fukuoka, Japan starting April 7, 2023. The airline will be operating on this route for the first time.

Besides this, the airline will also resume two new routes. The first will be daily service from Hong Kong to Shanghai Hongqiao, China and second will be five weekly flights to Bali Denpasar, Indonesia.

Hou Wei, Chairman, Hong Kong Airlines said: “The airline had leveraged every travel opportunity and continued to see positive business growth, particularly from the Japanese markets. Following the reopening of Chinese borders, Mainland China will definitely be the next market to contribute significantly to our travel recovery efforts. As such, our flights to the mainland double up to 35 sectors per week starting from 10 January to offer more travel options for our customers."

The airline is planning to increase is capacity on Hong Kong and Okinawa route that the airline resumed since November 2021 with thrice weekly services. The airline then increased daily flights on the route as demand increased. Now, from May 2023, the airline is planning a second flight followed by thrice daily service on the route starting from July 2023. With this the airline will return the route to 100% of its pre-pandemic capacity.

The Hong Kong airline has also become the first airline to fly to Beijing Daxing International Airport with four weekly flights.

In the January 2023, Hong Kong Airlines had announced that it expected to increase its flight operations to 30 sectors per day by the end of the month, reaching 30% of pre-pandemic levels.

As of January 2023, the airline flew to 15 regional destinations, including Tokyo, Osaka, Okinawa, Sapporo, Seoul, Bangkok, Manila, Hanoi, Taipei, Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Chengdu and Haikou. These destinations in Japan, South Korea, the Philippines, Vietnam and China represent around 50% of the pre-pandemic operation. By the end of this year, the airline expects to be operating 75% of its pre-pandemic capacity, reaching 100% by the middle of 2024.
