Hong Kong Airlines has announced a raft of changes as it continues to struggle. The announcement will see the airline completely pull out of the North American market.
The airline says it is struggling due to strong competition and overcapacity in the market, the recurring protests in Hong Kong since June have also affected travel demand, further impacting its business and revenue.
In a bid to cut costs the airline will reduce its capacity as it consolidates its services.
Hong Kong Airlines will discontinue its scheduled services to Los Angeles from 8 February 2020; and will end its flights to San Francisco even earlier. It will discontinue its direct flights to Vancouver from 12 February 2020.
In a further announcement, the airline said it will discontinue scheduled flights to Ho Chi Minh City, effective from 20 February 2020. As well as a suspension of its Tianjin service from 10 February 2020.
The airline released a statement, which said: “While the airline has already reduced its capacity and flights in the coming months, weak travel demand continues to affect its business and revenue.”
