Heathrow-based American Airlines engineers, represented by Unite, have secured a bumper pay deal with annual salaries now breaking £100,000.
Unite negotiated the pay deal which will see the engineers get a three year settlement with pay reaching $108,000 by 2027. American Airlines' Heathrow-based workforce totals around 60 engineers.
The agreement will immediately increase top of scale aircraft maintenance technician pay to over £100,000, entry level pay to £78,546 (including shift pay and London allowance), and top of the scale crew chief pay to over £113,000 (including shift pay and London allowance).
“This deal is amongst the most favourable for aircraft engineering anywhere in the UK,” said Unite general secretary Sharon Graham.
Unite said the deal “sets a benchmark” for its pay negotiations for engineers with other airlines.
“We will now be turning our attention to other airlines in the sector and ensuring our members there get similar offers,” said Unite regional officer Joe McGowan.
Unite said it is now organising to secure comparable pay rates for other similar engineering roles at Heathrow as well as other airports.
