Heathrow Airport sees 9.4% increase in January passengers
Six million passengers travelled through Heathrow Airport in January 2024, marking a 9.4% increase over January 2023. In particular, Middle East and Asia Pacific passengers saw a notable rise at 10.4% and 18.3%, respectively. ""The year has got off to a strong start, retaining Heathrow’s crown as the best UK airport. We are ready for the first passenger peak of the year, with February half term fast approaching,"" said Heathrow CEO Thomas Woldbye. 122,255 metric tonnes of cargo passed through the airport in January 2024, marking a 20.2% increase year-on-year. Heathrow Airport's report said: ""While exports are thriving, Britain has shut the door on home grown growth, turning away international shoppers through the tourist tax and tarnishing the UK’s reputation as a competitive country to spend and do business with."" Heathrow, in tandem with British Chambers of Commerce and the Federation of Small Businesses, will make a case for an internationally competitive tax-free shopping incentive at the UK Spring Budget in early March 2024.
