Swedish hybrid-electric aircraft developer Heart Aerospace and Scottish regional airline Loganair are collaborating to decarbonise regional air travel in the UK.
Under the partnership, both companies will establish use-cases for hybrid electric aircraft with Loganair's UK network, with its headquarters at Glasgow Airport.
A key item to the collaboration is Heart Aerospace's in-development hybrid-electric aircraft, the ES-30. The aircraft will have a capacity of up to 30 passengers once completed.
""This exclusive collaboration with Heart Aerospace brings together two organisations who share a passion to see aviation emissions reduce in a realistic and meaningful way, and we definitely see the ES-30 as being a strong contender to emerge as one of the leaders in this space,"" Loganair CEO Luke Farajallah.
As well as looking at use cases for the ES-30, both companies will engage with the Scottish and UK Governments as well as airports to promote the aircraft.
""This collaboration is an important step in our mission to make air travel more sustainable and we look forward to bringing clean and convenient solutions to Loganair in support of its ambitious goal to achieve net zero emissions across its operations by 2040,"" said Heart Aerospace president and CCO Simon Newitt.
The ES-30 is set to have a fully electric zero emissions range of 200km and an extended hybrid range of 400km with 30 passengers. With 25 passengers, it is able to up to 800km.
As of September 4, 2024, Heart Aerospace has 250 firm orders for the aircraft, with options and purchase rights for an additional 120 planes. It also has letters of intent for a further 191 aircraft.
